How to Get to Nassau
Getting into town is easy: either walk a little way south to the main shopping hub, Bay Street, or grab one of the many taxis waiting at the wharf. You’ll find visitor information booths right at the port at the Festival Place Welcome Center, with maps and other useful resources.
One Day in Nassau
Downtown Nassau is a colorful mix of colonial architecture and historic landmarks, boutique shopping and tropical gardens. Take a ride in a horse-drawn carriage or ride a water taxi over to relax on Paradise Island’s golden beaches. A guided tour will show you the colonial highlights plus introduce you to flamingos and wildlife at the lovely Ardastra Gardens.
Rather than exploring the sights, however, most shore visitors take advantage of Nassau’s incredible beaches and aquatic adventures. On a one-day shore excursion you can scuba or snorkel in Nassau’s crystal-clear water, ride in a submarine over colorful coral reefs or catch a speedboat to a tropical island to laze the day away at a beach resort.
Port Information
Nassau is a popular port of entry for the Bahamas. Most major cruise liners dock here, including Royal Caribbean, Carnival, Celebration, Discovery, Costa, Disney and Norwegian. The Bahamian and US dollars are used interchangeably throughout the island, but European and other currencies will have to be exchanged. The local language is English so don't be shy about asking for help or directions!
